About the Event
1] Mallari – It is an ancient traditional dance number closely associated with the temple rituals and melody of invocative musical instrument , the Shehnai. Mallari is given prime importance during processions , car festivals, light festivals and other magnanimous worship modes at temple. Here Purappaattu mallari is performed , the practice of singing mallari in three speeds of rhythm and tishra nadai is very famous in Purappaattu mallari. This practice indicates that mallari is the primordial form of Pallavi gaayanam. Choreography- Vid. Roopashree Madhusudan

The charanam in this thillana goes like Salutations to the noble preceptor of Tyagaraja, Bestower of boons upon singers and musicians, Revered by the illustrious lineage of great composers, Lover of divine music and the melodious flute, Exalted one, honored by all— O Guru Rāya, you are truly great.
