English Rakugo Storytelling

Hello All. Have you heard of Rakugo?? Do you like Comedy Stories?? Do you like to Laugh?? Do you like Japan?? Then read along….

I am Santhosh (SanQ), currently living in Tokyo performing Rakugo (a traditional Japanese comical storytelling art from). I am first Indian Rakugo performer. I would like to introduce this amazing art from to you. What fascinates me is, stories that were written more than 300 years ago are still performed and are still funny. Come enjoy listening to some of my favourite Rakugo stories.

Rakugo is a traditional Japanese comical storytelling art from. It has over 400 years of history (from the middle of the Edo period), and is characterised by its unique performance style. The stories are narrated in a dialogue format. Dressed in a kimono, the storyteller remains seated throughout the performance, playing the parts of several characters and acting out different scenes with only a fan and a hand towel as props. Unable to use costumes and scenery, it is the job of the rakugoka (storyteller) to inspire the imagination of the audience through the skill employed in portraying the world of the story.

Last year I performed 3 shows in India Chennai, Bangalore and Vellore. The response was overwhelming and honestly humbling. This year I am coming back to India for a different set of stories. Let us all have fun together laughing!!!
